Relax on Heaven's veranda overlooking Kigali, and enjoy the wonderful cooking at this lovely restaurant! Start with one of the imaginative house cocktails; the one with black pepper syrup really gets your attention and makes for great sipping, "south of the equator" I think it's called. My favorite entree, the Grilled Filet of Beef with cassava leaf chimichurri, green beans,...

Loved the atmosphere and food. A can't miss place if in Kigali, in my opinion. We had dinner with a large group and the service was excellent. US owners who have a great story and mission. Mostly a place that expatriots frequent, it seems.

May 21, 2012: "Great restaurant, great live music!"
Went to Heaven recently with a cool group of friends, and had one of the best nights so far in Rwanda. It turned out to be their 4th birthday as a restaurant, and the place was full of young ex-pats and Rwandans. Dinner was an eclectic, delicious buffet. Service was the usual effortlessly helpful Rwandan hospitality, despite the big crowd. Music was provided by "MonsterLove", a really, really cool ex-pat band who seem basically semi-pro and played amazing songs by my favourite bands from the States and Europe. Special drinks offers at the bar rounded off a wonderful evening. Can't wait to go back soon when Heaven have their next live music night.

May 18, 2012: "Lovely View"
My husband was in Kigali for work and I'd been researching restaurants to visit while there. Heaven was on the list and it didn't disappoint. The food was good and well presented. Service was pleasant and the food came out in a timely manner. One sweet thing, as you are eating outside, it can get a bit chilly in the evening. They have blankets for your lap, very thoughtful.

March 10, 2012: “Best meal on my visit to Kigali”

Heaven is easy walking distance from the Mille Collines, and a long walk or short taxi from the Serena. It is popular with expats, and you can feel good about paying at the high end for Kigali as it is devoted to training young Rwandans in the restaurant business. Service was good and attentive, and the food was outstanding. Our party of two opted to try two of the daily specials—one beef and one pasta—and both were excellent.

January 16, 2012: “Locally sourced, delicious food, friendly service, and gifts that benefit women's cooperatives - beautiful.”
My friends and I were greeted warmly by the staff, enjoyed good food, the beautiful view and low-key music.  I was most impressed by the ethos of the establishment, to focus on locally sourced foods and goods, and through the sales of gorgeous gifts, from hand-made baskets to computer bags, jewelry and scarves, to give back to local women's cooperatives.  Highly recommend.

Review of Heaven in SN Brussels Inflight Magazine (June - August 2008):

Heaven Cafe in Kiyovu opened in May. Its theme is 'Made in Rwanda' and everything from the paintings on the wall to the ingredients of the dishes and the placemats you dine on is sourced from within the country. Under the guidance of two restaurateurs from New York, it aims to be the best restaurant in Rwanda, and its international cuisine is sure to please.
